55 Positive Morning Affirmations for Kids [Script & Video]

Today I have for you positive morning affirmations for kids, with two videos!  I am a strong believer of positive affirmations.  Affirmations are a powerful tool that can let you direct your thoughts and energy.  Share the practice of positive affirmations with your kids and teach them how they can stay strong and resilient.

In this post, I will share what I do with my kids.  In addition, there are also some do’s and don’ts that are helpful when sharing affirmations with kids.  The list of affirmations below is designed for kids between the ages of 5 and 16.  They address topics including self-love, school and friendships.

Find a free printable file of these affirmations at the bottom of this post.  They are available in the “I am” and “You are” statements.  I also provide videos of the affirmations in those two point of views.  Try them both and see which connects better!

Benefits of Morning Affirmations

There are many benefits to daily affirmations, especially in the morning.  Affirmations are powerful statements that become seeds of positive thoughts and positive mindset.  By setting a specific tone for positivity in the morning, it provides an alternative to negative self-talk.

With regular practice, affirmations help build neural pathways for positive outlook and positive self-image.  And, once established, our thoughts tend to naturally follow the familiar pathways.  So if you build and strengthen neural pathways of negative thoughts, it becomes a part of their programming.  If you build neural pathways of positive self-talk and growth mindset, it becomes a part of their programming.

By nature, the younger the kids are, the more impressionable they are.  Their brainwaves are just wired that way.  [Also see my post, How Does Meditation Work?  Change Your Brain, Find Your Happy Place.]  So, with young kids, you have a golden opportunity to make a powerful impact on their brain for resilience and self-confidence.  And that, my friends, can set the foundation for their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Positive morning affirmations also help focus positive energy into thoughts that serve them.  Where your attention goes, your energy goes.  Doing affirmations in the morning, when the day is fresh and new, helps raise their vibration to align with good things.  Compare that to undirected or, even, negative energy.

When done consistently and with sincerity, these positive statements can really help kids start the day right!

These days, kids are under so much pressure.  From school, friends, and social media.  It is SO important to give them tools to overcome challenges.  Positive affirmations help you build a supportive environment and show them how to tap into their inner strength.

How I Use Affirmations with My Kids

At this time in our family, we have just five affirmations that we do in the car at the school drop-off line.  “I am strong.  I am smart.  I am kind.   I am loved.  I can do this!”  We all say them in unison.

My kids are 6 and 9, so their attention span is not very long.  But I also find that using just a few statements with kids—and even for myself, often—has the advantage of letting them really hear the statements.  They can remember and repeat them, easily!

Do we do them every day?  No.  I usually provide the prompt.  Sometimes they initiate, too.  But sometimes, they’re just not in the mood.  I have learned the hard way to not force it.  You cannot force positivity when they’re not open.  It makes things worse.

Which brings me to my next point.

Do’s and Don’ts

What is the best way to teach affirmations to kids?

First and foremost, I want to note that it all starts with you.  The adult in the room.  How do YOU deal with stress?  Do YOU do affirmations for yourself?  Do you model the positive thinking and qualities that you want your kids to have?

In my own healing journey, I find that it always comes back to my own healing.  When I heal myself, I help heal those closest to me.  As my vibration rises, I raise them up with me.

There’s a quote by Leo Tolstoy, “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”

So, consider modeling the qualities in yourself that you want your kids to have.  If you find that difficult, there is work for you to do.  Maybe it’s time for you to heal that inner child.  Maybe it’s time for you to make space for yourself.

You can play affirmations in the background when they’re reading, crafting, or playing.  You can write affirmations on sticky notes and make an affirmation board, or place one on their lunch box.  You can develop a morning routine when you listen to them or say them out loud, together.

But don’t force it if they refuse.  Try it again when you’re both feeling good and open.  And don’t stress out about how many times you did them, or if it doesn’t feel like they’re “getting” it.  Affirmations are a long-term game, anyway.

Teaching positive mindset and intentional living to kids requires a holistic, life style strategy with many tactics.  Powerful affirmations is one tactic.  Learning to take deep breaths when things feel difficult, is another.  Reinforce these positive ideas in your conversations with them.  You’ll be surprised how much and how quickly they absorb!
